The White Shaikh

"The White Shaikh" is a true story which took place at the beginning of the 19th century. In writing it I did not confine myself to the documents and books in my possession but paid a visit to Salem in the United States and saw the old buildings in the remaining part of the old city-the "Johannes Poll township". I also visited the Peabody Museum and the Essex Institute in Salem. In the East I searched for the descendants of Johannes Poll in Dhofar and came upon Sayyid "Abdul Khaliq bin Salmin bin Rabi, the son of the well-known lady in Dhofar, Harir, who was the daughter of "abdullah bin Muhammad, Johanes Poll; her mother was Brikun, whom her father married towards the end of his life.
