كُتب في أول المسرحية " مأساة من خمسة فصول " , لا أعرف لم وجدتها أنا " كوميديا " ! .. يا إلهي لا أستطيع احتمال كتابات شكسبير وكل هذه المثالية وشخصياته ذات البعد الواحد حيث الشر شر مطلق والخير خير مطلق ! .. كتابات شكسبير بالنسبة إلي مثل قصائد الشعر الجاهلي , لا أحب قراءتها لكني لا أجرؤ على القول أنها غير مهمة .. أعتقد أن شكسبير مهم جداً لقارئ الإنكليزية لأسباب تتعلق بالبلاغة اللغوية وجزالة التراكيب .. تماماً كقصائد الشعر الجاهلي بالنسبة إلينا .. بالنسبة لمضمون هذه المسرحية " المأساوية " لقد وجدته مضحكاً جداً , ربما لأني لست من هواة المسرح في الأدب .. لا أعرف هل كنت سأغير رأيي لو أنّي شاهدت هذه المسرحية ممثلة .. أعتقد أن نهايتها بموت لير وكورديليا قد رفعت قليلاً من قيمتها بالنسبة إلي .. قيمت المسرحية بنجمتين .. نجمة بسبب بلاغة التراكيب والحكم .. ونجمة مجاملةً لأنه شكسبير !
