This book is intended to be used for a university freshman course usually called “English 1”, given to students as an obligatory university requirement. The book contains fourteen units, one for each week of the semester if possible. If this is not possible for some reason, the instructor can always select whatever units that suit his students’ level or interest. Each unit contains one passage divided into three parts: two parts for reading comprehension and one part for listening comprehension. Each passage is followed by exercises on eight language areas: reading, listening, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, spelling, pronunciation, and writing.
